The rumors are no longer rumors. The Switch 2 is coming in 2025, and we already have some early reactions from my children and the children of Crossplay readers.
Huh. I'd be glad if there's a new Mario Kart obviously but my first impression was "Well thank goodness, it appears I don't have to buy Mario Kart 8 again"...because it looks pretty much like Mario Kart 8?
It would be very funny if Nintendo leans into the "2" branding. Super Mario 2, Animal Crossing 2, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2. Technically unused titles.
I'm glad of the backwards compatibility, because I don't have a switch (waiting for the 2) and because of all the gems that are still waiting to be played for me. 🙏🙏
I'm glad they are improving and upgrading what is already an amazing console. I'm crossing my fingers for the next Animal Crossing to come soon as well, and I'm always happy about a new Mario Kart!!
Glad to see that Nintendo didn't try to launch this version with a radically different name (i.e. N64, GameCube, Wii, Wii U...) Though I suppose the form factor and basic components are similar enough where they wouldn't need to rename it.
Disappointed that the change to the joycons looks like it obsoletes any existing joycon accessories (wheels, grips, chargers). Maybe the old joycons will be compatible with the Switch 2?
I can't see a reason why they wouldn't *talk* to the Switch 2, but if you had to bet on Nintendo wanting you to buy all-new expensive accessories, I know what side I'm picking.
There was not much for kids to get excited about in the trailer. I think back to when I had to pitch my parents on buying a SNES and N64, the games were clearly different at a glance and they changed the controller, it appears you'd have to watch Digital Foundry videos to see a difference here. It seems like it's just the Switch Pro but delayed and now they have to arbitrarily make some games not run on the OG switch.
Galaxy brain move from Nintendo to redefine "JoyCon Drift" as sliding your controller around on the floor
I expect they won't address it, but I'm hoping it's quietly fixed. I only ran into it once.
Someone on the Besties predicted Nintendo WOULD acknowledge it. Every little wiggle of those sticks makes me wonder if they will.
My Switch has it bad and I already went through one replacement.

I'm secretly hoping they turn Mario Kart into Smash Bros. and do guest characters.
It already has Link and AC Villager!

Yes. YES. YES!
But just Mario 2, the Super era was its own thing.

You're in for a real treat. Hoping old Switch games run better, too.

Animal Crossing seems like a slam dunk, but probably *after* the user base is established.

Yeah, hear you. Mine were disappointed how far off the games showcase was.
