Wow, great read. My daughter was born in 2020, right before the pandemic. Played through a lot of Fire Emblem Three Houses as she slept on my chest. Such a core memory for me.
My son was born just before the pandemic too. For some reason my girlfriend and I decided to do shifts at night, 6 hours each. I'd do the 2am - 8am shift and would have him sleeping on me all night while I played Death Stranding.
That game perfectly suited the melancholy and isolation of the pandemic and being the father of a young baby at the time. What made it especially weird is that you carry a baby around in the game at all times. It felt like that game was made just for me, sitting there in the dark cradling my little boy and wondering what the future might bring.
I spent a significant portion of my paternity leave with my first child gaming while she napped on my chest.
Legitimately some of my favorite memories of that time period. Nothing crazy compared to the bigger moments like childbirth itself or watching her roll over for the first time and other milestones, but still very special memories to me
Absolutely beautiful read. Thank you
